MVVM is a software design pattern commonly used in WPF applications. It's fairly ubiquitous when designing maintainable and testable code. If you want to go down a rabbit hole, check out ReactiveUI. It's my favorite MVVM framework and does some pretty amazing stuff with observable patterns and the .NET reactive extentions but the learning curve is pretty steep.
