I personally recommend jenv to set your Java version for your local development directory only. It's lightweight and cross-platform, provided you're using bash/zsh or similar. (However: it tells you to echo some lines into ~/.bash_profile, but this is true only on Mac. For Linux/Windows, ~/.bashrc is a more appropriate location (or the zsh equivalent)).
