Hell, if you're concerned about managing another service that has its own complications (like OP describes here), that's fair. I kind of agree on that front, and might drop Heimdall in favour of serving a simple hand-written HTML doc, and just style it with a single file classless CSS sheet.

We use https://bedrockdb.com/ as a layer on top on sqlite to replicate across multiple physical servers (less than 10). Each server stores it's own copy of the DB on a NVMe drive, and has enough RAM to cache the whole DB in-memory.
