Yes, https://moonscript.org/ is a nice and open source scripting language that is written, and compiles into Lua. There is no reason you can't do the same!
OP, use https://racket-lang.org/ instead of lua. Racket is meant for DSL and language development it will be much easier to get started there, not to mention it has a live community which is very enthusiastic about language development.
