As a personal example, my first brush with Jellyfin was this PR: https://github.com/jellyfin/jellyfin-web/pull/648 I noticed back in 10.4 that posters were sized incorrectly on the web client and it was bothering me. So I fixed it (Before noticing someone else had fixed it already :p ). After that, I noticed some other annoyances and started slowly fixing things around the web client, which ultimately ended in a year-long project to migrate the client to newer technologies, getting in the Jellyfin team, doing some small things on the server, starting a Vue client, etc.
