You can install haiti to try to determine what type is it. haiti will show you john the ripper and hashcat codes/formats so you can use them on you cracking command without looking for them on the documentation.

The latest version of hashcat (6.2.1) will identify the has you give it so you don’t have to figure it out beforehand. Otherwise, tools like hash-if or ciphey https://github.com/Ciphey/can help identify it. Failing that - google works. https://hashcat.net/wiki/doku.php?id=example_hashes
