The most simple way to take notes

This page summarizes the projects mentioned and recommended in the original post on /r/linux

Our great sponsors
  • SurveyJS - Open-Source JSON Form Builder to Create Dynamic Forms Right in Your App
  • InfluxDB - Power Real-Time Data Analytics at Scale
  • WorkOS - The modern identity platform for B2B SaaS
  • orgzly-android

Outliner for taking notes and managing to-do lists

Sadly, Orgzly has a fatal flaw it can't sync automatically except for local directories, which make it less usable for Dropbox. You have to sync manually on every device because if you don't do that, your notes get out of sync and you have to juggle around renaming files, then merge the differences manually. Very frustrating because there is an issue about it, but the developers don't seem to care.

  • Trilium Notes

Build your personal knowledge base with Trilium Notes

Plain text doesn't let you have linked notes or extreme organization like a dedicated tool does (like Trilium).

  • SurveyJS

Open-Source JSON Form Builder to Create Dynamic Forms Right in Your App. With SurveyJS form UI libraries, you can build and style forms in a fully-integrated drag & drop form builder, render them in your JS app, and store form submission data in any backend, inc. PHP, ASP.NET Core, and Node.js.

  • ThiefMD

The markdown editor worth stealing. Inspired by Ulysses, based on code from Quilter

If you're looking for a markdown notetaking app, my recommendation is ThiefMD. It has a library, syntax highlighting, decent previews, typewriter scrolling, writebetter integration and a lot of theming options.

NOTE: The number of mentions on this list indicates mentions on common posts plus user suggested alternatives. Hence, a higher number means a more popular project.
