AliExpress apparently have Tuya CO2 sensor using Zigbee. With zigbee you could keep everything local. There's also a commercial zigbee co2 https://titanproducts.com/zigbee-3-0-co2-sensor/ , but pretty expensive over $100, cause good co2 sensor are pretty expensive. If you want to go dyi there's https://github.com/diyruz/AirSense
I recently built an air quality monitor with an ESP32 board, a Winsen MH-Z19B CO2 sensor, a Nova Fitness SDS011 particulate matter sensor (PM2.5 and PM10), a Bosch BME280 temperature, humidity and pressure sensor, and an RGB LED. I also created an ESPHome configuration for it: https://github.com/koenvervloesem/ESPHome-Air-Quality-Monitor
