Slick carousel is great, but if you want a dependency free, vanilla js carousel I recommend splide js . It's pretty straightforward, the only culprit I see is that you need to define the html5 structure yourself, the library doesn't do that for you (but that way you get to control it's structure from start).
I would also recommend Swiper. It works really great on mobile, the HTML structure is pretty lightweight and you can omit features you don't want.
