Thanks for the indepth reply. Retrieving the id and inserting the item isn't wrapped in a transaction, though the Save is wrapped in a transaction itself (which includes the Api calls). If it fails, it attempts to rollback. I'm using something very similar to this https://github.com/dotnet-architecture/eShopOnContainers/blob/dev/src/Services/Ordering/Ordering.API/Application/Behaviors/TransactionBehaviour.cs.
