    Workman keyboard layout

  • I've just bought myself an Ergodox EZ and I'm attempting to learn touch typing properly on it using the Workman layout whilst continuing to not touch type on my usual keyboard to get work done. I'm making progress but I'm only using a subset of the alphabetic keys so far. I'm not sure what I'm going to do when I try to switch to using the keyboard and layout full time. My brain is probably wired to Emacs key bindings by position rather than by letter. If I try to press Ctrl and Shift with the opposite hand pinky then common Emacs keybindings like C-x C-f are going to be a pain to type with Workman (Right Ctrl and Left X, Left Ctrl and Right F) - even if I have Ctrl where Caps Lock is and in the equivalent location on the right. I could try to rebind everything by position (so find-file would become C-x C-t) but that may get even more confusing and sounds like a lot of work. If I can find a way to press all modifiers with my thumbs then it might not be so bad.
