You might check out https://github.com/vivien/i3blocks instead of i3status.
I recommend using i3blocks instead and create seperate bash scripts for easier maintainance. I've recently published this, might help you; https://github.com/tuxy/dotfiles/tree/main/.config/i3/blocks
