A new open source remote desktop software written with Rust

This page summarizes the projects mentioned and recommended in the original post on /r/rust

Our great sponsors
  • InfluxDB - Power Real-Time Data Analytics at Scale
  • WorkOS - The modern identity platform for B2B SaaS
  • SaaSHub - Software Alternatives and Reviews
  • rustdesk

An open-source remote desktop, and alternative to TeamViewer.

  • aseprite

Animated sprite editor & pixel art tool (Windows, macOS, Linux)

  • Aseprite, for example, lets you view the source and submit patches, but you're not allowed to distribute the software yourself. You can compile for yourself entirely free of charge, but (I'd assume) most users won't have the know-how or won't feel like expending the effort to do so. I admittedly don't know how well the model works for the Aseprite developer(s), but they've seemingly been in business since 2013, at least.

  • InfluxDB

Power Real-Time Data Analytics at Scale. Get real-time insights from all types of time series data with InfluxDB. Ingest, query, and analyze billions of data points in real-time with unbounded cardinality.

  • sciter-js-rust-boilerplate

Boilerplate for new Sciter.JS Rust project.

  • The Sciter GUI library is closed-source, that's why the DLL was included. If you're curious you can check out this demo of using Sciter with Rust for easy GUI development.

  • sciter-sdk

Discontinued Sciter is an embeddable HTML/CSS/scripting engine

  • From the license. This doesn't look complicated to me, or a reason to use a different GUI toolkit.

  • sciter

Sciter: the Embeddable HTML/CSS/JS engine for modern UI development

  • Your application shall include link to Terra Informatica site in "About" dialog or similar place in your application. Text of the link: This Application (or Component) uses Sciter Engine (http://sciter.com/), copyright Terra Informatica Software, Inc.

  • Pixelorama

Unleash your creativity with Pixelorama, a powerful and accessible open-source pixel art multitool. Whether you want to create sprites, tiles, animations, or just express yourself in the language of pixel art, this software will realize your pixel-perfect dreams with a vast toolbox of features. Available on Windows, Linux, macOS and the Web!

  • Also, given that I'm personally affronted by their decision to take a formerly open-source project closed-source, I prefer to promote a competitor that has since sprung up: Pixelorama

NOTE: The number of mentions on this list indicates mentions on common posts plus user suggested alternatives. Hence, a higher number means a more popular project.
