Tip for posters thinking of hosting their own mail

This page summarizes the projects mentioned and recommended in the original post on /r/selfhosted

Our great sponsors
  • WorkOS - The modern identity platform for B2B SaaS
  • InfluxDB - Power Real-Time Data Analytics at Scale
  • SaaSHub - Software Alternatives and Reviews
  • Sharry

Sharry is a self-hosted file sharing web application.

  • The biggest issue is the 10mb limit with SES, but if you’re self hosting you can attach unlimited attachments using some file host you’re using anyway which is probably more secure. I personally use Sharry but a lot of people host nextcloud/seafile too.

  • TextSecure

    A private messenger for Android.

  • So yeah, as a learning experience, setup all the mail you like. For real world usage it’s not worth the hassle, and if privacy is your thing, use something entirely different, like Signal, or if it absolutely must be mail, use something like gpg4win / gpgtools, but then the hosting doesn’t matter, and it’s once again not worth the trouble :-)

  • WorkOS

The modern identity platform for B2B SaaS. The APIs are flexible and easy-to-use, supporting authentication, user identity, and complex enterprise features like SSO and SCIM provisioning.

  • Mailcow

    mailcow: dockerized - 🐮 + 🐋 = 💕

  • This is where Mailcow is the GOAT. I do email and security admin at work as well, and I personally use mailcow. It makes all of this so much easier to get going.
