Yeah, that looks like an easy solution. I'd also consider using something like this library, it looks like it builds the org document tree and exposes timestamps at every node, so you can traverse the tree and change the attributes.
Therefore, I implemented my own (very naïve and nasty) Org parser for lazyblorg.
