  1. markdown-viewer

    Markdown Viewer / Browser Extension

    Agreed. I use QLMarkdown [0] for preview in Finder and this markdown-viewer extension [1] for in-browser preview. But a standalone, native app would be pretty nice too.

  3. mdview

    Standalone Markdown viewer

  4. pandoc

    Universal markup converter

    To be fair, one there's a good one there's much less incentive to write something new. In this case the good converter is Pandoc: https://pandoc.org/

  5. tree-sitter-djot

    Yeah, sorry.. i didn't mean to endorse MediaWiki.

    What do you recommend?

    It does actually seem that djot has a grammar of sorts..

    (it's designed for a tree sitter.. I'm not super clear if it's globally usable)

  6. QLMarkdown

    macOS Quick Look extension for Markdown files. (by sbarex)

    Agreed. I use QLMarkdown [0] for preview in Finder and this markdown-viewer extension [1] for in-browser preview. But a standalone, native app would be pretty nice too.

  7. pandoc-terminal-writer

    Discontinued Pretty-print text documents on a terminal using pandoc

    > Cannot read it through SSH. Need something else than your terminal.

    Well, for reading you can always use pandoc with stdout output and pipe it to a pager. There are also fancier options like https://github.com/Orange-OpenSource/pandoc-terminal-writer (disclaimer: I contributed a small PR a long time ago)

  10. markdown-live-preview

    markdown editor with live preview

    https://daringfireball.net/projects/markdown/syntax#philosop...

    "Markdown-formatted document should be publishable as-is, as plain text, without looking like it’s been marked up with tags or formatting instructions."

    Any text editor (Notepad, TextPad, (neo)vi(m), Emacs, TextMate, Apostrophe, GhostWriter, Typora, etc.) will do. Markdown-specific editors have either a real-time preview or the ability to edit as WYSIWYM:

    * https://keenwrite.com/ (mine, FOSS, cross-platform)

    * https://pandao.github.io/editor.md/en.html

    * https://markdownlivepreview.com/

    * https://stackedit.io/

    What do you mean by lack of readers?
