    I have the same concerns you have. I think the SD.Next (Vladmandic) fork is run by a more transparent owner (he's not, for instance, anonymous) who has some background in security... but even if that core repo is safer the whole extension eco-system is still dangerous (though he has recently rewritten the extension manager and is looking to improve things in that regard.)
