The forum post you linked is about a slight implementation of localstorage, but it's being used to persist data within an anki session. Once anki desktop is restarted, my understanding is that it generates a new webview with a different port, and all localstorage is lost. This feat in ankidroid shows a similar issue in ankidroid. Notice it is only tested on front and back side of the card.
