Couple of noob questions

This page summarizes the projects mentioned and recommended in the original post on /r/Nix

Our great sponsors
  • SonarQube - Static code analysis for 29 languages.
  • InfluxDB - Collect and Analyze Billions of Data Points in Real Time
  • Mergify - Updating dependencies is time-consuming.
  • There's a gitlab repo for "hack" for fprintd (here), but you are right the aur package points to a non-existent link.

  • NUR

Nix User Repository: User contributed nix packages [maintainer=@Mic92]

So first, I'm a bit confused about AUR. I'm not aware of what you're describing. I heard about AUR-like repo for Nix (called NUR https://github.com/nix-community/NUR).

  • SonarQube

Static code analysis for 29 languages.. Your projects are multi-language. So is SonarQube analysis. Find Bugs, Vulnerabilities, Security Hotspots, and Code Smells so you can release quality code every time. Get started analyzing your projects today for free.

  • nixpkgs

    Nix Packages collection & NixOS

Third benefit in that use case is that it's very simple to patch up existing app. For example related to fprintd which you mentioned, the standard definition how to build is this: https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/blob/master/pkgs/tools/security/fprintd/default.nix

  • nixos-generators

    Collection of image builders [maintainer=@Lassulus]

If you need to generate lxc container in NixOS then perhaps this repo might be useful: https://github.com/nix-community/nixos-generators this article uses it https://www.thedroneely.com/posts/running-nixos-linux-containers/

  • repology-updater

Repology backend service to update repository and package data

I believe it likely was a comparision in number of packages, currently nixpkgs outnumber AUR (although it also contains packages that are part of other languages): https://repology.org/

  • InfluxDB

Collect and Analyze Billions of Data Points in Real Time. Manage all types of time series data in a single, purpose-built database. Run at any scale in any environment in the cloud, on-premises, or at the edge.

NOTE: The number of mentions on this list indicates mentions on common posts plus user suggested alternatives. Hence, a higher number means a more popular project.
