Bro, I feel you. Proton VPN's lack of love for the Linux user-base has been a real drag for the community. But there's some stuff you gotta check out. Last year, I gave Proton VPN a piece of my mind about their Linux GUI and CLI issues, I was having your issues plus security concerns. Got word that a brand-new Linux app was cooking. Found this GitHub post backing it up: https://github.com/ProtonVPN/linux-cli/issues/64
What OS are you running Proton VPN on? The OP is referring to Linux. What version of the Linux app are you running? CLI or GUI? I think you’ll find that there are a number of varying experiences you can get between the two since the repo was last updated: https://github.com/ProtonVPN/linux-app What numbered version of that Linux app are you running?
Per my post here, https://www.reddit.com/r/ProtonVPN/comments/13k5uia/proton_vpn_for_linux_is_totally_fcked_up/jkjzsef/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&utm_content=1&utm_term=15&context=3, there is a pre-release alpha being tested and worked on at the moment that isn’t officially supporting anything outside of Ubuntu 20.04, 22.04, Debian 11 and Fedora 38: https://protonvpn.com/support/linux-prerelease/ but then there is already an unofficial repackage for Arch Linux: https://github.com/Zylquinal/protonvpn-bin that Proton doesn’t support. The alpha is an alpha and thus: Warning: We do not recommend using our pre-release app if your threat model calls for high security or if you’re not experienced in using Linux. Bugs are to be expected and it is far from fully featured.
You do know that Linux has native GUI support for VPNs don't you? Install the strongSwan suite from your distribution. This will enable IPsec/IKEv2 on your machine.
