  • v86

x86 PC emulator and x86-to-wasm JIT, running in the browser

  • Any local software like regular archivers and encryption programs (even full disk, boot disk, etc. ones - everything before the cloud, mobile and app store craze) is easy to run, even from 40+ years back. You can run very cleanly a Windows 2000 virtual machine in countless ways, including in your browser: https://copy.sh/v86/ (yes, it works on phones as well, at least on the ones a little more powerful). Not that you'd need to run it natively but there are plenty of machines that do XP (2001) which had the last patches not that long back (2019!). And with that you can run without fuss mostly everything from DOS programs to 16-bit Windows 3.1 apps (think Netscape 1).
