Regarding whether AGH is better Pihole, it's a personal preference. They are both filtering DNS, while AGH is more feature-rich. There is a plan to let you choose between AGH and Pihole when creating a tunnel if you like Pihole more.
The current implementation uses WireGuard with AdGuardHome. It can take the host list syntax like Pihole. To upload your own or fine-tune the blocklist, you may go to the AdGuardHome dashboard. Otherwise, choosing the block mode would get you started with some common blocklists and recommended settings.
