Cloud-Native distributed storage built on and for Kubernetes

  • The biggest challenge quickly became persistent storage for the cluster. Kubernetes pods are focused on compute with ephemeral storage. You can use local storage on a given node but then you need to make pods sticky to a node and node failures sting more. I considered getting a NAS but every one of the micro PCs already had relatively large amounts of storage, some with SATA SSDs or M.2 SSDs. I ended up going with Longhorn for distributed block storage. https://longhorn.io
