  • I can only speak from experience. I went the self taught route and spent 5 years learning programming. C++. Eventually got a developer job for a game studio who put me to work writing asp.net webforms and the asp.net mvc 4 i lost that job after 90 days. Went to Lambda School a 9 month intensive coding academy where i wrote code 8 hours a day 5 days a week for 9 months. I learned everything from the basics of JavaScript to Python, React, how to interact with api's, Node, SQL ect... I also learned how to make a resume build a portfolio and a few other things. All my teachers had recently last 5 years worked in the industry and explained things very well. This was extremely hard for me. Anyway after the 9mo i needed more time before i was job ready so i spend another 3 months passing all the assignments i had failed. Got my graduation badge and about a week later got hired at a company for 50k. I had to move 2000 miles and leave my wife and kids at home to go do that and it only lasted 9mo before i couldn't take it and moved back home. Once i moved back home the school helped me get a job at a startup from Y-Combinator and i worked there until they ran out of runway. That was at 30/hr. I cannot say your experience will be similar but i can say every single person i went to class with still works in this industry. I would recommend a bootcamp if its at least 9mo. Anything less your wasting your time and money. Also I didn't have any money at the time so the fact that Lamba allowed me to go on an ISA was a God send. I paid 17% of my salary back until i paid off 30k dollars. Versus i still owed 100k from ITT-TECH until it just got forgiven and I still owe 40k to Fullsail University for a BA in game design i never finished. Lambda rebranded due to California law to https://www.bloomtech.com/ Not sure if its still as good but might be worth a shot.
