For example, imagine a world all GUI applications are available as one-click installations, hosted by a non-profit foundation, providing compatibility and consistency regardless of Linux distribution. Imagine if command line applications and development tools are simply containerized virtual environments that run within the user's home directory. What then defines a distribution? Will some distros fall away? Will others merge efforts? Will many users simply roll their own pre-built images, similar to the great work being done by Universal Blue? So many questions...and I haven't been this excited about computing since discovering Linux more than twenty years ago.
I built a flatpak using this git.
If you've got this far, please go read the rpm-ostree docs and perhaps read some github issues, it will show you what rpm-ostree truly is, better than I could.
