  1. PDM

A modern Python package and dependency manager supporting the latest PEP standards

That's more or less what PEP 582 plans to do, but it's been stalled and mired in discussions for years. The PDM tool went ahead and implemented it though if you want to use it: https://github.com/pdm-project/pdm

  3. rtx-python

I agree this should be built-in, however in the meantime, I've built what I think is a good solution to this problem into rtx: https://github.com/jdxcode/rtx-python#experimental-virtualen...

I think it offers the best of asdf, pyenv, and direnv. Of course, I would say that, but so far people seem to like using it.

  4. asdf

Extendable version manager with support for Ruby, Node.js, Elixir, Erlang & more
