There's a python script called stacki3 that works both on i3wm and sway. There is also a dwm clone for wayland called dwl.

If you want Master stack on sway there is Layman https://github.com/frap129/layman Sway is more documented and easier to configure.

Looks like Persway supports this with its stack_main layout? https://github.com/johnae/persway (I haven’t used it, just happened to see it and remembered this post)

Author here. And yeah, as of 0.6.0 it supports master stack - I just called it stack main. I was in fact inspired by river: https://github.com/riverwm/river. River is really promising but is still in very early development. Sway on the other hand has been around for a long time and I, for now, prefer that stability.
