Finding a server is easy, simple as going to joinmastodon.org and filter servers that allow registration immediately, this way you don't have to deal with invite-only servers which are clearly marked. Regarding bans, you can review the rules before joining a server, if you want porn, then look at the rules or the values of the Mastodon community you are joining, many servers mention "mark content as sensitive for NSFW" to keep the server a safe space while allowing users for NSFW with a warning, this is often a rule in many subreddits and even twitter itself (not sure if things have changed since Elon tookover). While other servers have no NSFW rule, so you can literally check all the rules before joining a server, when you "sign up" for a server through joinmastodon.org, rules are the FIRST thing that is shown.
