The main downside is that the debug environment is almost non-existent, so if you lock up the processor - for example with an infinite loop - it is very hard to understand what has happened. I have a debug-over-audio library on GitHub (https://github.com/tSoniq/dragon) that may be useful, although it will not help debug hard crashes.
