Use a wireguard server. https://github.com/angristan/wireguard-install this script will help you install it and configure everything. The only thing exposed to internet will be wireguard in a random port. Wireguard use keys to login and is very secure, fast and lightweight.
I did when I started because I subscribed to too many blocklists. Now, I only use the default https://github.com/StevenBlack/hosts and do not have any breakages.
