I don't recommend other mods for first-time players, save possibly the BG1 NPC Project (for anyone who wants even more NPC's, at the expense of overwritten Imoen dialog additions), and BG:EE itself adds several NPC's. But I do recommend the Tweaks Anthology to make gameplay smoother.
