Since no one else has mentioned OpenMTP I will. Great for bulk transfers from or to Mac or Boox. You can place files in the directory you want, on either side. Offers drag-and-drop as well. Similar to the Android file transfer app, except it’s far less clunky and far, far faster with transfers.
I'm using Syncthing to synchronise the data between my Mac and my Note Air. It's free, open source and runs without any problems in the background. I'm using it to sync with my NAS server too and never had any issues or conflicts. I created a folder "sync" in the "documents" directory on the Note Air and there two folders "to_read" and "done" (they do have a different name - German...).
