Google search is getting worse every year, that is correct. You can try to, first, switch to another default search engine, for example, duckduckgo, though for a lot of cases Google still searches better and, second, use operators in you search, often it helps a lot.

I'm genuinely surprised to not see Searx, a free and open source metasearch engine that aggregates results from dozens of search engines, mentioned here.
