Note that, if Node ever gains support for Linux io_uring, this will be turned on its head; file I/O will then be truly async as well, just like sockets, and therefore reading lots of files asynchronously should be faster instead of slower than blocking I/O. io_uring is a very different kernel API from the traditional epoll, though, so both Rust and Node are taking a long time to develop support for it. Rust will most likely even need an entirely new API for async I/O.
Have you heard of Deno? I’ve yet to do a project in it but am very interested.
