Depending on the format an size of your map files, you might want to look into Git LFS
To add to this, there's also Logseq, an alternative open source client that works like a charm! I personally didn't use Obsidian very much, but Logseq can work from locally from browser if you don't want to install it and it has the auto-commit functionality you can toggle in the settings if you are working inside a repository, super useful

Thanks! I've used https://github.com/moritzgloeckl/overleaf-sync as a workaround, but this looks much better (as long as Overleaf doesn't start banning people for this).
There is this: https://github.com/Coliinnn/Git-docx-version-control I’ve not tried it, but I’ve heard of some plugins that were able to supposedly track them as text files, this one claims to convert to markdown internally (not sure how well it works and how complicated of a document it can handle), I want to say there at least was something that tracked the inner xml files, but it didn’t quickly show up (and wasn’t showing up in my stared repos, so maybe it got removed).
