I'm trying to set up DoT from OpenNIC on Android but it keeps failing.

I just Ctrl-F https://github.com/curl/curl/wiki/DNS-over-HTTPS for OpenNIC then test it with https://github.com/ameshkov/dnslookup. The built-in Android Private DNS would only work if your ISP and router doesn't block port 853, otherwise you'll need DoH, either use Intra or Nebulo.
