Project mention: MyQ now free? Possibly included with premium connectivity? | /r/teslamotors | 2023-06-23Yeah! So first, get HACS if you don’t already have it (https://hacs.xyz), then the custom Tesla integration (https://github.com/alandtse/tesla) - side note: you’ll need to be able to get a refresh token for your account (iOS app: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/auth-app-for-tesla/id1552058613)… once you have the integration setup, create an automation. It should trigger when your vehicle tracker enters home zone and you can set device > myQ to open. Lmk if you need more help or have questions
Project mention: Haier hits Home Assistant plugin dev with takedown notice | news.ycombinator.com | 2024-01-18Unfortunate. I'm not directly affected by this takedown, but I just started using Home Assistant with my GE (owned by Haier) washer and dryer via this repo: https://github.com/simbaja/ha_gehome
I often forget to take clothes out of the dryer in the garage, so I'm working on an automation to flash the lights by my desk with increasing urgency the longer clothes are left in.
I'm very surprised how well Home Assistant works for its kind of hobby project, it's matured quite a bit from when I looked into it a few years back. It's not a huge win if all your devices are already HomeKit and programmable via Shortcuts, but it's that it can bridge my non-Homekit Nest, ECOVACS, and GE devices into HomeKit land, and offer unified WebSocket & REST APIs to program against.
I'm not sure how into home automation you are or smart home stuff in general BUT Home Assistant has an integration for the B-Hyve hardware. If you have the desire to get into it, that might be a better path for you. Here's a link to the documentation and here's a link to a community thread where people are sharing additional info on their setups in Home Assistant.
* Close/open retractable curtains, probably "Louvolite" ones which can be controlled through https://github.com/mtgeekman/Home_Assistant_NeoSmartBlinds/ according to https://www.reddit.com/r/homeassistant/comments/14bn1oc/louvolite_intergration/
This is what I was really afraid of when I reverse engineered my fireplace BLE controller last year. Especially since the "Set password" command accepts raw bytes for input but the OEM app only ever sends length-limited numeric data.
Luckily, it seems to completely forget anything that happened to it after a brief power loss.
Which is probably why most of the BLE controllers of the same brand simply stay at the default password of "0000". A power outage will eventually get you back to that. If you're really bored that'd probably make for some great BLE wardriving.
But I, too, ended up putting the results of my reverse engineering into a Home Assistant integration (https://github.com/kaechele/napoleon-efire) and documented the system and protocol (https://bonaparte.readthedocs.io/en/latest/index.html).
