One thing that works for these edge cases is to copy the class file to your project, rename stuff and hack it. Ie copy the card.py file from kivymd to your project, rename all the declared classes, for example so it ends up as MyMDCard. You can then hack the implementation to your heart's desire. It's not great, but sometimes it's necessary

There's also work on osx/ios themed widgets https://github.com/cmdvmd/kivy-cupertino. Still in the beta phase and could use a lot of work but there could be some promise there.
