Project mention: Difftastic, a structural diff tool that understands syntax | news.ycombinator.com | 2024-03-21
The diff itself is impressive, but in terms of styling I still prefer diff-so-fancy[1]. It's easier to read at a glance.

In January 2018, I proposed a CPAN Butterfly Plan to convert Perl functionality to Raku as closely as possible to the original API. I stated this as a goal because Perl (as a programming language) is so much more than syntax alone. Ask anyone what Perl's unique selling point is, and they will most likely tell you it is CPAN.

Project mention: How to view which packages will be in the next snapshot on tumbleweed? | /r/openSUSE | 2023-09-02
I sometimes look at https://openqa.opensuse.org/ when I'm excited for a new package release (example, kernel 6.5) just to see how far along the next snapshot is. While this is interesting, I can't seem to figure out which packages will be in the snapshot when I do this.
-

Project mention: Learn to write Go at this year's Perl and Raku Conference | /r/programming | 2023-06-01
A lot of places which primarily started as Perl shops have ported some of their less performant code to Go, so it's not an unusual combination. I have a little cheat sheet that I set up as I found myself in the same boat: https://github.com/oalders/go-for-perl-hackers

Project mention: Conduit: Simple, fast and reliable chat server powered by matrix | news.ycombinator.com | 2023-07-30
How does this relate to Synapse? Dendrite tests against https://github.com/matrix-org/sytest and has issues for “are we synapse yet” — I can’t see any discussion of this for Conduit (not even a discussion on why they don’t want to be like Synapse).
