    The Intuitive Vue(2) Framework

    Project mention: Releasing a pomodoro app #1: programming bit by bit | | 2022-01-21

    I also thought that making such an app should not be so difficult, maybe I could create something even better. I just had to decide on the platform and tooling, but since I was already looking at web apps and I already had some experience with Nuxt and Vue.js, I believed that I could leverage them to build my very own take on a great timer application. Time to start building it!

  • GitHub repo themostdangerouswritingapp

    If you stop typing for more than five seconds, all progress will be lost.

    Project mention: I made a small writing tool where you can write short passages and have them disappear | | 2021-10-07

    It's very similar conceptually to The Most Dangerous Writing App (and very similar technically, it's basically just a slightly modified fork of their work) but I was interested in something that more embraced the nature of your work slowly disappearing rather than using it as a punishment. I also went ahead and included the (disableable) ability to download your past entries if you decide you want to keep them. Otherwise you can just close the tab and they'll disappear forever.

  • GitHub repo pix-plot

    A WebGL viewer for UMAP or TSNE-clustered images

    Project mention: Over 700k paintings from the Rijksmuseum online copyright free | | 2021-01-30

    Density based clustering with high dimensional data will tend to struggle. This is because, in high enough dimensions, you need a lot of samples to see any density. Also distances start to look very similar (from the curse of dimensionality). To get any traction on such things you need some form of dimension reduction. For something like this non-linear techniques are going to be better. If you want a pipeline of standard parts then something like:

    Pretrained-CNN --> UMAP --> HDBSCAN

    can turn out relatively reasonable results, especially if the UMAP you use for the clustering is to more than 2 or 3 dimensions (often 5 to 20 is good, depending on the data). You can, of course, still use a 2D UMAP to visualize the results. If you want such a pipeline packaged up then consider the PixPlot package, designed for exactly this use case, from the Yale Digital Humanities Lab:

    * Disclaimer: I am highly biased, as an author of both HDBSCAN and UMAP implementations.

    Apply sound changes automatically to a set of words. (by TriMill)

    Project mention: TriSCA - a new web-based sound change applier | | 2021-03-09

    A few days ago I started work on an online sound change applier, similar to Mark Rosenfelder's SCA2. The syntax is slightly different, which allows you to write some rules more compactly or clearly, but it is feature-rich enough to be a full replacement for SCA2. Thorough documentation is available by pressing the "Help" button, and all the code is open-source and is available on GitHub under the GNU GPLv3 license. I will add more features as people request them or as I get new ideas.

    This time, I picked the game-knight repository to work on. This is an interesting project to easily record the result of any games we play with our friends and family. In the previous issues that I took on, I did fix a bug raised by others and also fixed a bug that I raised myself. For this one, I decided to try something new - contributing a brand new feature
