  • bootswatch

    Themes for Bootstrap

    Project mention: What am I learning? | | 2021-10-08

As a piece of concrete advise, you can use something like Bootstrap, which is already highly theme-able (almost all React component frameworks are highly theme-able, but Bootstrap can be themed with a simple link tag in your HTML),, so that you can have a consistent UI, while you focus on learning the ropes of React. Just becareful that some bootstrap elements might need jquery, which is why reactstrap or react-bootstrap exist.

  • react-native-extended-stylesheet

    Extended StyleSheets for React Native

Project mention: Magnus UI vs. Dripsy - Chakra UI alternatives for React Native (+Web) | | 2021-06-10

Not yet responsive, but planned responsive with react-native-media-queries, which makes pure CSS media queries also run on native (with device orientation). Since Magnus UI generates pure CSS media queries when run on web. They consider it more performant than using Fresnel. But the jury is out... Alternatively, it might be that Magnus UI will use react-native-extended-stylesheet as a drop-in replacement for the StyleSheet in React Native which also supports media queries on native.

Project mention: Ask HN: What are you using for public documentation these days? | | 2021-11-18

Background: I've been a technical writer for 9 years. 6 at Google, 3 as the only writer at an IoT startup.

I helped Corrily with their docs [1] in August. They were interested in I wasn't keen on it because I had worked with Retool a few years back and had found lacking. But I was pleasantly surprised by how much has progressed since then! If you're looking for a documentation product that is very easy to update and mostly just works, then it's worth checking out.

On I was introduced to Eleventy. Eleventy [2] is now my go to. The documentation for Elecenty itself is very strangely organized and needs a refactor. But I have found that there is always a way to accomplish whatever I need, and usually elegantly.

Another project worth checking out is Docsy [3]. This is a Jekyll template specifically created for technical documentation.

Back at the IoT startup I had to set up the whole documentation system / tooling myself. I used Sphinx and deployed to Heroku. Haven't used Sphinx since then but I remember being satisfied with it back then.

  • github-vscode-theme

    GitHub's VS Code themes

Project mention: Dracula Theme: a dark theme for 227 different apps | | 2021-12-08

I feel these themes strike a very nice balance in color contrasts and finally provide me with a light theme I can also use, although being a dark theme user for who knows how many years, the github light theme just works really nicely.
