Use it to manage my entire family's computers and phones.
The only way to add a search engine to Dtv is to use it in combination with the Jackett app. The wiki at https://github.com/SchizoDuckie/DuckieTV/wiki/Using-Jackett-with-DuckieTV gives details.
Our biggest challenge was the spatial navigation. We wanted to unify the navigation logic for all platforms, so we did not use native components. We went for a fully Javascript handled navigation. We used the lib LRUD by the BBC for that, and wrapped it up for react (we're working on open-sourcing this part).
As part of a project called Zentrox, I wrote a package manager for linux, that uses JavaScript and commands to manage packages.
Instead of using the web frontend, you can also just use the library.
I would recommend, that you do not allow users except the admin to use it, if you have a web app for example.
