Project mention: Why Browsers Are Essential to the Internet and How OS Are Holding Them Back | news.ycombinator.com | 2022-09-26

One benefit that immediately comes to mind is the ability to protect yourself against a major security flaw in Safari:

    https://safarileaks.com/

Apple did issue a fix after a few weeks but with no alternative browser engines the only alternative was “don’t use the web on your iPhone”, which is absurd.

Other user benefits might include better performance, more capabilities (it took Apple years to implement WebRTC, for example) and in general more competition that might spur Safari into becoming a better browser.

Project mention: Ask HN: Share Your Personal Site | news.ycombinator.com | 2022-04-06

    https://langworth.com

It’s a retro experience with a text adventure game. I wrote it to prove to myself that I kinda knew WebGL after shutting down our browser gaming startup.

Only one person has beaten the game. Most don’t make it inside the building. Guess I’m not a great game designer ;)

I made a demo of a peer to peer style game with VueJS (but it is vue2 sorry, cos I did it a while ago) https://github.com/ably-labs/depict-it It is open source, please take it if it is helpful! It uses Ably to do the websockets, which does the client/server communication with pub/sub. They have a pretty generous free account offering. There's a pretty thorough readme in the repo and I talk through it in this vid if you prefer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mE7cgvcuZig
