  • bddisasm

bddisasm is a fast, lightweight, x86/x64 instruction decoder. The project also features a fast, basic, x86/x64 instruction emulator, designed specifically to detect shellcode-like behavior.

Project mention: Just released v0.2.0 of bddisasm - a no_std x86/x86_64 instruction decoder which aims to provide as much information as possible about an instruction | reddit.com/r/rust | 2022-01-05

You're probably right. The library was first developed for our in-house hypervisor and memory introspection engine, which needed a way to analyze and emulate instructions, so one of the main goals is to make this as easy as possible. There's a really really small [emulator](https://github.com/bitdefender/bddisasm/blob/master/bindings/rsbddisasm/bddisasm/examples/emulator.rs) example in the repo that showcases this.

  • uefi-ntfs

UEFI:NTFS - Boot NTFS or exFAT partitions from UEFI

Project mention: Anyone able to install windows on steam deck while only owning a mac? | reddit.com/r/SteamDeck | 2022-05-03

So if you want to copy the contents of the ISO as is, you need to extract them to exFAT or NTFS (which are file systems that the Windows installer can also read outside of FAT), but this means that you may have to install an exFAT or NTFS UEFI driver to chain load the Windows installer, which is why utilities like Rufus and WoeUSB add a 1 MB UEFI:NTFS partition at the end of the drive, that takes care of that.

  • efifs

    EFI FileSystem drivers

Project mention: Fedora considers deprecating legacy BIOS | news.ycombinator.com | 2022-04-21

EFI doesn't actually mandate FAT for the system partition. The system partition can be any filesystem that the firmware supports.

Of course, pretty much all EFI implementations only support FAT, so it's a bit of a moot point; the only one I'm aware of that supports anything else is the one on Intel Macs, which also understands HFS+.

You can find a huge selection of EFI filesystem drivers at https://efi.akeo.ie/ but they're derived from GRUB and hence GPL, so don't expect the likes of American Megatrends to be bundling these any time soon.
