How to Lose Control of Your Shell
> Now, listen. I wish I could continue here and end with โโฆ and this is why ZSH does it that way!โ
https://github.com/zsh-users/zsh/blob/47c7bc9b1493c7374f076b... has a comment about this behaviour, but no justification. I think it's just an optimization to save a little bit of time by not forking, and to avoid having the zsh process hanging around taking resources for no reason.

Pimp your CLI
As a developer, the command line is one of the tools you will be using most frequently. It can be intimidating to venture into the world of CLI tooling but I can assure you it is one of the most rewarding experiences too. In this post I want to walk ya'll through my personal CLI setup. It is based on 3 technologies which I'll coin as the "Holy Trinity" of the command line: TMUX, ZSH, & Neovim.

Zsh and Bash
Just like macOS, bash is included by default in most Linux distributions. Zsh on the other hand, needs to be installed manually. The installation process varies for different distributions but you can always check how to go about it for your distro on zsh website.

FreeRDP: A Remote Desktop Protocol Implementation
WSLg(Windows Subsystem for Linux GUI) uses RDP and FreeRDP to work: https://github.com/microsoft/wslg
I haven't tried it yet, but I'm hopeful the experience is better than last time I tried Hyper-V enhanced linux experience. I imagine this use case is getting FreeRDP way more attention.
For years I've developed in a Linux VM on a Windows host via VirtualBox. The typing lag on this, particularly in IDEs like VSCode and Rider, finally got to me. So, I moved over to WSL and have to say; the experience is amazing.

Wayland Is Pretty Good
This is running in WSL?
Microsoft has some wayland stuff already for WSL, though I think internally there's RDP involved: https://github.com/microsoft/wslg

Need help getting Linux GUI applications to run on Windows through WSL 2

Ask HN: Windows 10-based devs, are you upgrading to Windows 11?
Apparently, WSLg does away with the need for a separate X server, making things "easy" to use:

Graphics in c++ but in wsl
There's two completely different aspects to your question. 1) How to manage libraries in c++ without dying from cringe? I'd suggest you use cmake as the build system and grab library sources directly from GitHub using this tool: https://github.com/cpm-cmake/CPM.cmake 2) How to get apps that run under WSL to display windows-native windows? I'm not sure, but it's probably this: https://github.com/microsoft/wslg

How to access Ubuntu's stock desktop environment using wslg and D3D12?
Hereโs a thread about it. You can get into the underlying RDP session instead of just apps launching. https://github.com/microsoft/wslg/issues/1019
