Can't stream a video to a file
an m3u8 file is a playlist file, not an actual video file. Could try 1 at a timing the video files in the playlist if they are listed(sometimes this can be a bit intensive and requires using inspect on the page to find it in the code). Personally recommend a downloader like youtube-dl or a fork of it (youtube-dlp)

Rule
Good thing we have these wonderful services that helpfully allow us to listen to a song or two in between ads! Why, without them we'd be stuck with programs like youtube-dl, allowing you to retrieve the audio of any YouTube video, including from playlists.

YT-DL and YT-DLP (cmdline tools for downloading videos)
Youtube-dl is the original and when the development became slow to the point it looked like it was abandoned, someone took the code and made yt-dlp, which has some improvements and is more actively maintained. To download, check the releases section and download the one for your OS. This one is for yt-dlp.

If JDownloader doesn't work, you could try https://github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlp, they claim to support NPR.

Download YouTube videos, host locally?
This has actually been fixed in youtube-dl's codebase since the end of January (see https://github.com/ytdl-org/youtube-dl/pull/30184 ), but for some reason a release hasn't been cut yet.

I've used s4cmd in the past. It worked well, and you can specify the level of concurrency.
