You can use mokuro on any manga you have in digital form to turn the text into selectable text and read it in a PDF reader of your choice. You can then combine this with the Yomichan browser extension and dictionaries of your choice to allow you to instantly look up any unknown word you encounter when reading manga, with a single button press.

No, textbooks are only one way of learning Japanese (and a pretty slow one at that). Many people have learned Japanese by just learning vocab with anki and reading through a grammar guide like Sakubi or Tae Kim's. Once they've done that, they start reading native material, maybe with the help of Yomichan to help them look up things more easily.

If you're going to be reading on a computer anyway, you can just use https://ttu-ebook.web.app/ to read epub files and use Yomichan for on-the-fly lookups. I just convert my Kindle purchases to .epub and read on ttu.

I don’t know if there’s exactly what you’re looking for, but a good alternative, slightly more cumbersome option could be capture2text plus yomichan.
