Wazero: The zero dependency WebAssembly runtime

This includes the final release of the new optimizing compiler, which is a big improvement over the previous one.
The new version also adds experimental support for threads and snapshot/restore (setjmp/longjmp).
This is already being used by go-pgquery, all will mean that sqlc won't need to ship to almost copies of wazero (these features had been implemented on a friendly fork, and have now been up-streamed).

WASM by Example
Wazero looks super cool. I saw somewhere that programs can be run with a timeout, which sounds great for sandboxing. The program input is just a slice of bytes [1], so an interesting use case would be to use something like Nats [2] to distribute programs to different servers. Super simple distributed computing!

Show HN: Sqinn-Go is a Golang library for accessing SQLite databases in pure Go
It is slower.
The WASM runtime wazero [1] uses a compiler on amd64 and arm64 (on Linux, macOS, Windows, and FreeBSD), but the current compiler is very fast (at compiling), but very naive (generates less than optimal code).
An optimizing compiler is currently being developed, and should be released in the coming months. I'm optimistic that this compiler will cover the performance gap between WASM and modernc.

Show HN: dockerc β Docker image to static executable "compiler"
Unfortunately cosmopolitan wouldn't work for dockerc. Cosmopolitan works as long as you only use it but container runtimes require additional features. Also containers contain arbitrary executables so not sure how that would work either...
As for WASM, this is already possible using container2wasm[0] and wasmer[1]'s ability to generate static binaries.

Howto: WASM runtimes in Docker / Colima
I could not find any guide how to add WASM container capability to Docker running on Colima. This guide provides a few Colima templates for exactly this, which adds WasmEdge, Wasmtime and Wasmer runtime types.

Just as a note, as it was not mentioned in the article, Wasmer [2] also participated with a $2,500 bounty to compile Biome to WASIX [3], and it has been awesome to see how their team has been working to achieve this as well... hopefully we'll get Biome running in Wasmer soon!

The Curse of Docker
It's funny how WebAssembly can help overcome most of the issues mentioned on the blogpost (packaging, configuration, portability) if addressed properly.
That's the main reason Wasmer [1] was created :)
