videoduplicatefinder VS lossless-cut

Step 1: download the daily build, which in my case, would be App-osx-arm64.tar.gz since I have an M1. I just unzipped it to /Downloads/VDF

I've used Video Duplicate Finder for this before. (Yes, it works on images, supposedly). It's pretty buggy but it does the job.

I use Video Duplicate Finder in a docker container on my media server. It shows you at a glance which version of a file has the longest duration, highest frame rate, bitrate, resolution, file size, etc.

For videos though I used something different. https://github.com/0x90d/videoduplicatefinder - its not quite as polished as some software but the results more than make up for it.

SimilarImages and Video Duplicate Finder both work by creating thumbnails of videos and comparing them. VDP is a bit more modern than SI.

I'm looking for a duplicate video finder app for macOS. I mean a real app with real content and metadata comparison (eg. can identify 2 same movies, even with different resolution or codec). For lossless cut, there's the LosslessCut [1] app, which even has an experimental but mostly working version of a "smart cut" feature [2] (aka. only re-encode the minimal mandatory amount of frames if you trim at a point between 2 key frames)

It's been possible to create a clip from a video file that merely changes what parts of the video are displayed without effecting the data in the original since the Classic Mac OS days.

If you want to completely remove unwanted portions of a video to reduce the size without a loss of quality, there are many options. LosslessCut is one option that is both free and open source.

LosslessCut does have experimental support for this partial re-encode called "smart cut" [1]. Since it's using ffmpeg internally, the challenge become how to instruct ffmpeg to do this[2]?

Check out losslesscut, vidcutter and avidemux.

https://github.com/mifi/lossless-cut is another great ffmpeg-based tool. For me it is a starting point for blocking videos out of fragments. It works immediately and has nice UI (not just "enter time into integer fields").

You can always crop the video later with lossless cut but yeah idk any gui that combines the two functions, but there might be one out there (I use command line so I never looked too into it).
