Try out vidcutter, based on the popular media player mpv.

How would one keep identical output settings with no compression whatsoever? All I want to do is trim my video clips.
I use it to trim all my game clips. It also supports displaying HDR videos properly, something I'm not aware if similar programs like VidCutter have.

LosslessCut: The Swiss Army Knife of Lossless Video/Audio Editing
Not sure exactly what your use case is, but I use vidcutter for lossless clip extraction and it works great and does not require Electron (it's QT based I believe). https://github.com/ozmartian/vidcutter

Drag and Drop does not work
I can confirm that following the steps in this link https://github.com/OpenShot/openshot-qt/issues/5221 I was able to install the workaround and resolve the drag and drop problem. Both files can be added to timelines and effects to clips. For anyone looking for a solution, please use the steps from the GitHub thread.
To fix the problem please do this. You can also find the main thread for this here: https://github.com/OpenShot/openshot-qt/issues/5221

"Why people pirate Microsoft Word" and the problems with everyday software like Microsoft Office being ridiculously expensive.
OpenShot Video Editor is a pretty straightforward tool to cut videos and add some simple effects. There are more complex free video editors out there, but this is all I've needed to date.

Welcome to Conway Station: An "edge of the map" glider launch facility (WIP)
Not OP, but I use OBS (Open Broadcast Software) to record the video, and Davinci Resolve to edit it. Both are extreme overkill for this purpose, but it's what I know. If you're on Windows 10, you can use the built-in Xbox Game Bar (Windows+G) to record, and maybe something like OpenShot to cut it together.

Easy to use creation type apps for 70yo dad
Openshot is what I've used as a basic editor. If you want something a bit more advanced, look up Kdenlive. Microsoft is also pushing clipchamp these days but I've never used it.
